It is so important to recognize the many aspects of grief. Whether it is bereavement or loss through other means, it is vital to recognize grief as a necessary process if we are to live peaceful and resolved lives. I was recently introduced to yet other facets of grief, some related to physical illness and others simply to the process of aging and retirement. This again shows us that we all grieve at some point in our lives.

Since the untimely death of American superstar Michael Jackson, I've heard many comments regarding feelings about his life's work, behaviour and the manner of his death. I have meditated on whether to share my thoughts in this blog or to remain private. However, I believe there are so many blessings that can be learned from this event that has touched lives the world over, regardless of how one feels about him as a person. He certainly 'pushed many buttons' for many people, of that there is no doubt. However, if we listen with open, compassionate hearts, I believe we can allow this to be a tremendous opportunity to learn what it says about our culture and its response to grief on so many levels.
